We did it!…but actually it’s just the beginning.
The panel we conducted at the 13th Sderot Conference for Society, in November , “The State’s Responsibility for the Quality of Life of the Sick and Elderly”, was a significant step towards increasing awareness about the subject and towards influencing policy makers in the health field and in the Knesset.
Our thanks go to members of the panel, moderated by Ran Reznik, health journalist for Yisrael HaYom.
Cecille Asekoff, deputy chair of NAJC (National Association of Jewish Chaplains) in the U.S.
Dr. Osnat Levzion-Korach, director of Hadassah Hospital on Mt. Scopus
MK, Michal Biran, The Zionist Camp
Prof. Ben Corn, founder and president of Life’s Door and head of the Institute of Radiotherapy at the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv
Yossi Heiman, director of JDC-Eshel and coordinator of the National Program for Palliative Care for end-of-life patients
Special thanks to General (res.) Uzi Dayan, chairman of the Sderot Conference, who honored us with his presence and his active participation in the discussion, which took place with the audience throughout the panel.
And thank you to the 120 participants who made the 2-hour discussion so interesting and lively and for helping us bring to the fore painful issues and realistic solutions relating to the quality of life for the elderly and sick in Israel.
